Driving in Cyprus

Self-drive car and motorcycle rental firms have offices in all towns, as well as at Larnaca international Airport. Vehicles with manual or automatic transmission are both available.

In Cyprus, driving is on the left. Visitors often decied to drive themselves in order to be able to visit the more beautiful, remote areas and places of interest that are not accessible by puplic transport.

The roads are generally well surfaced and modern, except in some mountain areas. Dual lane motorways connect the capital, Nicosia with the coastal towns of Limassol, Larnaca, Ayia Napa, Protaras and Paphos. The speed limit on motorways is 100km/h.

Minor roads and forent roads are still largely unsurfaced but in good to fair condition. Appropriate care should be taken on these roads, especially during wet weather.

Basic maps are provided in this Web-Directory. More detailed maps of the island and its main cities are sold in bookshops and at local kiosk.
